It’s been a warm spring so far and we’ve met some wonderful people during a whole host of events, our weekly walks and most recently for our fantastic Wellbeing Walk with colleagues from charities Off the Record, Mentoring Plus, Walk Bath and Bath 5K Map on 18th May.  We’ve also been spotting some fantastic nature during our grassland training at Bathwick Fields and during a litter pick with the local community and Landscape City colleagues on Newbridge Slopes.

If you’re keen to find out more about ways to enjoy the beautiful Bathscape throughout June and beyond then do read on. We’re looking forward to Festival of Nature; have some exciting ‘save the dates’  and would love to hear from you too!

Festival of Nature 2025

Festival of Nature returns this June for a week of in-person and online events for all ages, with film screenings, guest appearances, arts and crafts, experiments, screenings, walks, talks, tours, exhibitions, music and more.

The theme of the festival this year is water.   Discover the importance of water spaces and water journeys, big and small, in supporting nature, biodiversity and the natural world.  Find out more about marvellous activities to get involved with throughout the festival between 7th and 15th June.

Join Bathscape at the Climate Hub

During June, Bathscape and the Bath Riverline Project will have an exhibition in the Climate Hub.  We’re running a few events from there too, as part of Festival of Nature, so check the programme.  If you haven’t been yet, the Climate Hub is in the Rotunda (the old ticket office in the bus station) and is a great resource for all things related to climate change.

Twerton Flower Show and Fun Day

If you live in the Twerton and Whiteway area why not join in with the fantastic revival of the Twerton Flower Show on Saturday 14th June from 12 noon until 4pm.  Run by and for the local community.

This will be a fun afternoon of free activities to enjoy including potato racing, a snail puppet show and craft activities AND there will be a workshop on ceramic flower making; seed sowing with Blooming Whiteway and a floristry demonstration.  If you want to compete in one of the categories, get yourself registered.

There will also be football with Bath City Foundation, Emma and Lucy from Bathscape will  be bug hunting and also (very much enjoying) tea and cake from Southside Family Project.

You can find full details of the day and ways to get involved –https://www.twertonandwhiteway.org/one_off_events/twerton-flower-show-and-fun-day/

Local celebrations for Festival of Nature

Find out more about the Charlcombe Community Nature reserve on Sunday 15th June! Bath Natural History Society will be sharing their knowledge and passion for nature and helping local people to find out more about the wildlife there.  You can find out more about this special site in the Bathscape and meet other like minded people with a keen interest in supporting local nature and wildlife!

There will be two sessions on the day – the first, a drop-in session, will start at 11am, where you’ll have the opportunity to talk with naturalists about the surveys that they are carrying out around the reserve and what they’ve found.

Then, in the afternoon, starting at 1pm, there will be a free guided wildlife walk around the reserve (please book a place – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-nature-of-charlcombe-tickets-1360061202669?msockid=1e03e010ef9260f40cd5f580eed7614e)

Climate and Nature Survey open until 16th June

Residents are being invited to share their views and experiences around nature loss and climate change in an online survey to shape Bath & North East Somerset Council’s new Climate and Nature Strategy, which launched earlier this month.

The short survey takes around five minutes to complete and is anonymous. It asks residents a series of questions about action they have taken to protect nature and or reduce their climate impact, any barriers to action they have faced and their view of the council’s work so far.

You can take part in the survey online and printed copies are available in the three main libraries: Bath Central, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton. The survey closes on 16th June.

Latest listening opportunity – Footprints Podcast

In May’s podcast we explore three of the Downs of Bath. It’s debatable how many there are in Bath – some say seven others say 9…

Listen to local experts Rob Kendall, Nicole Daw, Mike Williams and Howard Burton talking respectively about Bannerdown common land; the new accessible route around Lansdown for trampers; Druidic temples on Lansdown; and the history of Charmy Down.

Coming very soon June’s episode, Waters of Bath, will feature stories of the river, and the people and wildlife that use it.

Find the latest episode or catch up on any you’ve missed or would like to revisit at: https://footprints.captivate.fm/ or search “Bathscape Footprints” wherever you normally get your podcasts.

Huge thanks as always to our contributors and our podcast producer, Pommy Harmar.
